About

Hello

I am a storyteller, presenting different perspectives through camera and carving.  Whether it is on stormy seas, on the back of a boat, capturing a shot of an elusive albatross; or, wading through a muddy swamp so as not to disturb a nesting bird, my photography aims to inform the viewer.  Landscapes are presented in ways that force the viewer to reconsider a perspective or that stir memories of a forgotten time and place.  Observation is key.  It enables me to understand and respect my subject.  Observation also informs my printmaking.  Before any line is carved the image is carefully drawn, transferred to Lino or wood block and each cut and colour is planned.

Why is visual storytelling so very important?  The pace of life means that we sometimes don't have the capacity to stop and observe.  My intention is to provide you with glimpses of wonder, that short-cut the observation time required, and that leave you with a sense of awe.

My artwork and photography can be found in private collections throughout NZ, in Australia, UK, USA and China.

The boring bit.  I once did a PhD in Public Health because it seemed like a good idea.  Turns out, it was.
